Oktoberfestgoers urged to implement security measures
The world-renowned Oktoberfest, known for its festive atmosphere and Bavarian traditions, is taking a significant step towards ensuring the safety of its visitors. This year, the iconic event introduces the SafeNow emergency app, a tool designed to provide help to potential victims faster in case of an emergency.
The easy-to-use app, which requires verification via phone number, offers a range of features to enhance safety. Once verified, users can share their location, creating a network of safety within the vast festival grounds. In the event of an emergency, a central alarm button on the app triggers a loud alarm, overriding silent phones, ensuring immediate attention.
One of the app's most innovative features is the automatic addition of security forces to a user's contacts when they are within a designated safety zone. This feature ensures that help is just a click away. Groups can also be created, allowing friends to share locations and stay connected throughout the festivities.
Last year, the Oktoberfest faced challenges, with 352 people seeking protection in safe spaces. The implementation of the SafeNow emergency app is a testament to the event's commitment to learnt lessons and prioritising visitor safety. The app is being used this year in four large tents, including the Hofbräu tent, Ochsenbraterei, Armbrustschützen tent, and Schottenhamel tent, expanding the designated safe zones.
The use of the SafeNow emergency app at the Oktoberfest serves as a model for other major events. By providing a quick and efficient way for visitors to inform security personnel of an emergency, the app is set to revolutionise safety measures at large-scale events.
In addition to the app, the Oktoberfest organisers continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of all visitors. The festival's commitment to safety, combined with the innovative SafeNow emergency app, promises a festive and secure experience for all.
