NVIDIA's popular cloud gaming service, GeForce NOW, has received a significant upgrade, delivering RTX 5080-class performance in the cloud. This enhancement is made possible by the use of NVIDIA's Blackwell RTX GPUs, based on the RTX Pro 6000 model architecture.

These server-grade GPUs, while not consumer-grade GeForce RTX 5080 cards, are designed to match or exceed the RTX 5080 performance. Each gaming instance is equipped with a massive 48GB of GDDR7 memory, providing approximately 62 teraflops of compute power.

The servers hosting these GPUs also feature AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9000 CPUs, which provide improved CPU performance tailored for cloud gaming workloads. NVIDIA ConnectX-7 networking hardware ensures low latency streaming, while advanced features like NVIDIA DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation and NVIDIA Reflex reduce latency and enhance graphics streaming for a smoother gaming experience.

With this powerful hardware combination, GeForce NOW Ultimate subscribers can stream games at up to 5K resolution at 120 fps or 1080p at up to 360 fps with very low latency. This level of performance rivals or surpasses that of current consoles.

The update also introduces a new Cinematic Quality Streaming mode, which promises improved color accuracy, smoothness, and clarity. This mode supports the YUV color model with 4:4:4 chroma sampling and 10-bit high dynamic range.

GeForce NOW's library of games is also set to more than double, reaching 4,500 titles, with the release of Install-to-Play. This feature allows games to launch right away without needing to download or reinstall the game each session when saved in persistent storage. Members can expand their Install-to-Play storage with add-ons: 200GB for $2.99 per month, 500GB for $4.99 per month, and 1TB for $7.99 per month.

GeForce NOW continues to support a wide range of devices, including Windows 11, macOS, Android, iOS, iPadOS, ChromeOS, select LG TVs, Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest, and through a web browser. The service will also support 90 FPS on Steam Deck and fully utilize 120Hz displays on select LG TVs.

Despite the upgrade, the subscription service will maintain its current pricing, costing $19.99 per month (or $99.99 for six months) even after the upgrade. However, a GeForce NOW Ultimate membership is required to use the RTX 5080-class GPUs.

NVIDIA has not yet confirmed the specific GPU that powers the RTX 5080-class experience in GeForce NOW. But one thing is certain: the service is now capable of delivering an unprecedented gaming experience in the cloud.
