North Germany & North England Team Up to Lead Green Hydrogen Revolution
North Germany and North England are stepping up their collaboration in the green hydrogen sector. 27 large-scale projects in North Germany have received funding under the Important Projects of Common European Interest (IPCEI) program. This follows a recent dialogue between the two regions, highlighting their ambition to become leading hubs for green hydrogen production and use.
The 'North Meets North Hydrogen Dialogue' brought together political decision-makers and industry representatives from both regions. State Secretary Cristina Pereteatcu, from the Republic of Moldova's Ministry of Energy, and German government bodies like the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) showed their support for international hydrogen projects. Hamburg, aiming to be the European hydrogen economy's central hub by 2035, showcased its concentrated expertise along the entire hydrogen value chain, as highlighted by Senator Michael Westhagemann.
The North German hydrogen network HY-5 presented major projects at the Hydrogen Technology Expo in Bremen, demonstrating the region's progress in the sector. Representatives of HY-5 and the British Department for International Trade discussed opportunities for cooperation and growth potential, underscoring the commitment of both regions to become leading future hubs for green hydrogen along the entire value chain.
With 27 North German hydrogen projects selected for IPCEI funding and both regions' commitment to collaboration, the future looks bright for green hydrogen in North Germany and North England. Their shared ambition to lead in green hydrogen production and use positions them well to secure energy independence and drive the European hydrogen economy.
