Nio's Firefly electric vehicle surpasses 10,000 deliveries, preparations underway for European shipments

NIO's Firefly, the premium small electric vehicle, has finally made its way to Europe. The Firefly brand, launched by NIO on December 21, 2024, started delivering its vehicles in Europe on August 14, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the company.

The initial deliveries were limited, with around seven registered vehicles, six in the Netherlands and one in Norway, by mid-August 2025. The Firefly is positioned as a competitor to vehicles like BMW Mini and Mercedes-Benz Smart.

To cater to local preferences, European versions of Firefly feature adjustments in handling and suspension. Production of these vehicles is based in Hefei, China. Nio aims to expand Firefly to about 12 additional European countries by the end of 2025 via local distributors.

The Firefly deliveries in Europe were preceded by a 15-day road test in preparation for market entry. The first model under the Firefly brand, named Firefly, was officially launched on April 19.

In China, Firefly has been well-received, with the brand delivering 2,157 units this month alone. In May, the brand delivered 3,680 units, and in the last two days of April, it delivered 231 units. As of the end of June, Firefly had cumulative deliveries of 7,843 units. The 10,000th Firefly vehicle was delivered today.

NIO has also partnered with HERE Technologies for overseas map data to ensure smooth navigation for Firefly drivers. The BaaS (battery as a service) purchase option for Firefly became available on June 24, offering consumers the opportunity to purchase Firefly for RMB 79,800 with a monthly battery rental fee of RMB 399.

The right-hand drive version of Firefly is set to be ready by October at the latest, further expanding the brand's reach. With its European launch, NIO is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market, targeting consumers looking for a premium small electric vehicle.
