Splatoon 3 players are in for a treat as Nintendo has announced a free update coming to both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 12, 2025. This update brings a host of new features and improvements, enhancing the game's content, balance, and technical performance.

One of the most significant additions is the Splatlands Collection, which includes 30 new weapon kits from the Barazushi and Emberz brands. These weapons, based on existing ones, offer fresh gameplay experiences with new designs and different sub and special weapons.

The update also introduces the returning stage, Urchin Underpass, a fan-favourite from the original Splatoon on Wii U. For those seeking a new challenge, the maximum Freshness caps for all weapons have been raised, allowing for further progression.

Nintendo Switch 2 users will particularly benefit from this update, as Splatoon 3 will run with more detailed visuals and smoother framerates on the upgraded system. Cross-play support between Switch and Switch 2 players is also included, allowing for a larger player base to enjoy the game together.

Other changes include gameplay and progression updates, such as the addition of a new stat - Series Weapon Power. This stat tracks a player’s effectiveness with each weapon based on their win/loss ratio in Anarchy Battle (Series), encouraging experimentation with new weapons without disadvantage. Players can also earn new in-game Badges in the update.

Several bug fixes have been implemented to address control issues on the Switch 2, multiplayer landing inconsistencies, stage-specific anomalies, and UI improvements, ensuring smoother overall gameplay.

In addition to this update, Nintendo has announced a new Splatoon spin-off game called Splatoon Raiders, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 system. In this game, players will assume the role of a mechanic and embark on an adventure in the Spirhalite Islands with the Deep Cut trio.
