A new interactive tool, Native Economic Trends, has been launched to visualize socioeconomic changes over time for Native communities across the US. The tool, updated annually by the Center for Indian Country Development (CICD), uses broader definitions for American Indian or Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander communities.

Native Economic Trends uses publicly available data to explore patterns in population, infrastructure, and economic measures for Native geographies. It provides detailed demographic information based on U.S. Census Bureau data, reflecting individuals' self-identification. The tool offers two primary modes: Combine and Compare.

In Combine mode, users can group multiple geographies and examine up to two measures for them. This allows for a comprehensive analysis of trends across various Native communities. In Compare mode, users can view trendlines for a chosen geography and measure, with relevant comparisons to understand the unique dynamics of specific communities.

The tool uses the broader definitions of AIANac and NHOPIac for American Indian or Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander respectively. It also provides additional explanation when hovering over individual data points, ensuring users have the necessary context for their analysis.

Native Economic Trends is an invaluable resource for understanding and tracking socioeconomic changes in Native communities. With its interactive features, users can gain insights into population, infrastructure, and economic trends across multiple geographies. The tool's use of broader definitions and detailed demographic data ensures a comprehensive representation of Native communities. Users can share or download information using icons or a spreadsheet link at the bottom of the data window, facilitating further analysis and discussion.
