New Changan Q05 compact electric SUV unveiled, set to compete with BYD Yuan Up in the electric vehicle market
Changan's Nevo Q05: A Game-Changer in the Global Compact Electric SUV Market
Changan Automobile's sub-brand, Nevo, is set to make a significant impact in the global compact electric SUV market with the launch of the Nevo Q05. Scheduled for late 2025, the Q05 is expected to debut at the Chengdu Auto Show in August of the same year.
The Q05 will be built on an 800-volt high-voltage electrical platform, marking a departure from its hybrid predecessor, which was launched in December 2023. This new platform is expected to offer better energy efficiency and charging speed.
Key features of the fully electric Nevo Q05 include a 120 kW electric motor, an advanced design aligned with Nevo's latest design language, a Lidar sensor for enhanced safety and autonomy capabilities, and dimensions smaller than its predecessor, with a length of approximately 4,435 mm, a width of 1,855 mm, and a height of 1,595-1,600 mm. The wheelbase measures nearly 3 meters, at 2,735 mm.
Pricing for the Q05 is expected to be competitive, with an estimated cost under RMB 100,000 (~$13,000). The Q05 will also be available in the international market, including Europe and Australia, via Changan’s Deepal brand.
The hybrid Nevo Q05 version, currently priced at RMB 96,900 (~$13,500), offers a large 18.4 kWh battery, a pure electric range of 115 km, and a total EV range of up to 1,215 km under the NEDC cycle. It also features four drive modes, a panoramic sunroof with rain sensor, park-in/park-out assist, dashcam, a 6-way electric driver seat with memory and welcome function, a 360-degree camera, dynamic braking, rollover mitigation, and emergency braking system for safety.
The Nevo Q05 is positioned to directly compete with the BYD Yuan Up/Atto 3 as a global compact electric SUV with a similar size and role. While the Yuan Up typically offers competitive range and pricing in the compact EV segment, specific range or power figures for the Yuan Up were not detailed in the current search results for direct technical comparison. However, the Nevo Q05 brings newer tech like lidar and is part of Changan’s aggressive international expansion, potentially giving it an edge in features and market reach.
In addition to the Q05, Nevo is also set to launch a new sedan model, the C390, in the second half of the year. The C390 will be Changan's first sedan based on the SDA (Software-Defined Car) architecture.
The current Nevo lineup includes the A series, Q series, and E0 series. The Q05, with its modern features and competitive pricing, is poised to attract a wide audience and strengthen Nevo's position in the global market.
