Native support for Windows on Arm is now available in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and additional applications, yet not all features have been included in this rollout.
Adobe has taken a significant step towards addressing the app compatibility issues with Windows on Arm PCs by releasing native ARM versions of its creative applications, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and Media Encoder.
The new native ARM apps have received positive reviews, with users spending over 90% of their time on Windows on Arm PCs using these native apps. However, these apps are not without their limitations.
The current limitations of Adobe's native ARM versions include missing features, codec and plugin support gaps, and some performance restrictions due to the apps still being in beta. Notably, certain video formats and effects are not available, and some rendering or export functionalities may hang or fail, especially with compositions involving Cinema 4D in After Effects.
Some codecs and format supports are absent, which restricts workflow options compared to the x86 versions. Certain After Effects features, like Cinema 4D integration and Cineware rendering, encounter errors or fail on Windows ARM despite the native app, requiring workarounds or resulting in functionality loss.
Performance and battery life improve with native ARM builds, but some users may still face compatibility issues with plugins or presets. Adobe has indicated that some missing features, including support for specific codecs and plugins, will not be added even after moving past beta.
The availability of native Arm versions of Adobe's creative apps is a significant step towards addressing the app compatibility issues with Windows on Arm PCs. The new native Arm apps are a welcome addition to the growing catalog of the best native Windows on Arm apps.
However, Adobe has not specified which features in Premiere Pro will not be available in the native Arm version. The performance of some non-native apps on Windows on Arm PCs may be poor due to Microsoft's Prism emulation.
The new native Arm versions of Adobe's creative apps are currently available in public preview. Users are encouraged to try them out and provide feedback to Adobe to help improve the apps and address any remaining limitations.
