Nationwide Airtel Service Interruptions: Company's Response and Expected Repair Timeline
On August 24, 2025, a significant temporary disruption hit Airtel's network services, affecting calls and internet services for thousands of users across major cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. Users reported various issues such as call drops, weak signals, no signal errors, mobile data problems, and total network blackouts. According to the reports, 71% of complaints were about voice call issues, 18% about total loss of network connectivity, and 26% about mobile internet issues. Many users in Delhi-NCR continued to experience issues even in the afternoon.
Airtel acknowledged the outage as a "temporary connectivity disruption" and assured customers that the issue was expected to be resolved within about one hour, advising users to restart their phones after that time to restore services. By the afternoon, reports of the outage started declining, and the network services were largely restored, though some users still experienced issues for a few hours afterward.
This outage followed another major disruption on August 19, indicating recurring network reliability problems for Airtel within the same week. The latest Airtel outage highlights the vulnerability of telecom infrastructure in India and raises serious concerns about the reliability of telecommunications, particularly for business and emergency communications.
It is worth noting that the outage also affected Jio and Vodafone-Idea (Vi) to a lesser extent. Complaints about the outage started circulating nationwide, and Airtel issued updates, apologizing for the situation and assuring users that their engineers were working to restore service. By 6:40 PM, the number of complaints had fallen below 400, indicating partial service restoration.
As of August 24, 2025, Airtel's network outage has been resolved with normal call and internet services restored. However, the disruption underscores recurring connectivity issues impacting many subscribers across India. Airtel has not provided a specific timeline for full restoration, but normalcy should prevail with a full restoration by late evening.
