Monthly Game Bundle Outlook: Is Humble Choice Worth the Investment? Breakdown of the Subscription's Offerings
Sick of Paying Too Much for Humble Choice? Here's What You're Really Gonna Get
Hey there, gamers! I've been a subscription service junkie for years, and one of my favorites used to be Humble Choice. But with the prices skyrocketing, I had to cut ties. Let's talk about why.
As of July, Humble is jacking up the price from the original $11.99 to a whopping $14.99 per month ($129 to $154 per year). I'm not exactly thrilled about this price hike, but let's see what you're buying into for that heap of cash.
Charity: The Only Thing Pure in this Dirty Business
Now that we've established Humble isn't exactly cheap, let's play the high-ground card. Where does your money go when you pay for services like Game Pass ($12 for PC, $20 for Ultimate)? Into the greedy pockets of shareholders.
But where does your hard-earned cash go with Humble Choice? Some greedy shareholders, but - BUT, 5% of all profits go directly to a featured charity of the month.
As of June, the charity is The Trevor Project, a leading organization dedicated to protecting LGBTQ+ individuals from the dismal world we live in.
Are You Down with Some Old-School Gaming?
Alright, let's talk about ownership for a moment. Ignoring the fact that digital content is more like a lease, not actual ownership, you get to "own" the games you receive with Humble Choice. On the other hand, the games on Game Pass will eventually fade away like a fad.
Quantity vs Quality: Make it Rain or Rack Up Points
In terms of quantity, Game Pass will shower you with access to hundreds of games, while Humble Choice will only offer a select number of games each month. June's offering is a mere 8 games plus a 1-month subscription to Boot.dev and IGN Plus, along with access to "The Vault" featuring over 50 DRM-free indie games to keep.
But don't underestimate the power of indie games. They can be just as thrilling as their AAA counterparts. And being DRM-free is the closest you'll ever get to owning something digitally.
Is Humble Choice Worth the Cash?
Here's what the June 2025 Humble Bundle line-up has to offer for its current $11.99 asking price:
- Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun
- Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered
- Nobody Wants to Die
- Tchia
- Sker Ritual
- Biped
- Havendock
- Dungeons of Hinterberg
Admittedly, two of these titles are decades old, and most of them are games I haven't even heard of, except for Dungeons of Hinterberg, which is the shining star on this list... Although it's available on Game Pass, too.
However, it's a strong selection in terms of overall reception, with all games scoring 84% to 94% recommended on Steam. Plus, you'll save over $200 on those games, which offer a combined 188 hours of gameplay, according to HowLongToBeat.
If you're into experimental gaming and willing to try new things, even if they look ancient or strange, Humble Choice is a good fit for you. Otherwise, you might be better off with Game Pass. But I think I'll be taking a pass on Humble for now - not even a price hike can make the lineup enticing enough.
- If you're a tech enthusiast, Humble Choice's gaming laptop deal might catch your eye, featuring top-tier RAM for smooth performance.
- Instead of rushing to grab the latest gadgets, consider diving into a captivating book for your next smart-home device relaxation session.
- For gaming aficionados seeking quality over quantity, Humble Choice offers a selection of indie games every month, each met with positive reviews, often scoring 84% to 94% on Steam.
- While digital indie games might not shine as brightly as the latest AAA titles, they can still provide an enchanting entertainment experience, especially with the added benefit of being DRM-free.
- Technology & entertainment enthusiasts seeking an array of options for their monthly subscription might be better served by Game Pass, with hundreds of games available, including a mix of indies, classics, and new releases.
