Modern Update at Half Moon Pub, U.K.: Traditional Venue Embraces Modern Audio Technologies
The Half Moon, a historic London music venue known for its iconic performances since the 1960s, has undergone a significant upgrade to its sound system. This transformation, involving Martin Audio and Solotech, has resulted in a modernized, high-quality sound system that promises to enhance the audience experience and support the venue's ongoing reputation as a top live music destination in Putney.
Located in Putney, the Half Moon, with its 220-capacity, holds significant importance in rock n roll history. The venue has hosted U2's first sell-out show, Kate Bush's public debut, and performances by The Who and Rolling Stones.
Martin Audio, a renowned provider of professional loudspeaker systems, played a central role in this upgrade. They supplied advanced systems tailored to the venue’s acoustics and size, enhancing both the clarity and power of live music reproduction. Solotech, a specialist technical solutions provider, handled the installation and integration of the new audio system, ensuring optimal setup and tuning for the venue’s unique space and live event requirements.
The current Martin Audio sound system at the Half Moon venue was installed nearly a decade ago and is nearing the end of its life. James Beck, the head engineer at the venue, who has worked there for a significant amount of time, noted the improvement in sound quality. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, who visited the venue in 2018, carrying Martin Audio's MLA Mini loudspeaker array, observed a significant improvement in sound quality upon seeing the new system.
All signal routing and EQ at the Half Moon venue is managed via a dedicated Martin Audio DX4.0 processor. The main system at the venue is powered by a pair of Martin Audio VIA5002 amplifiers. This modernized sound system is not just a step forward for the Half Moon, but also a commitment to catering to future generations of performers.
