MIT Lincoln Lab Adds Saab 340 to Fleet for Cost-Effective R&D
MIT Lincoln Laboratory Flight Test Facility has added a Saab 340 aircraft to its fleet, reducing costs for sponsors while retaining essential research and development capabilities. This acquisition brings the total number of government-owned aircraft at the facility to five.
Previously leased for regional passenger and cargo transport, the Saab 340 has been modified with advanced radar, sensing, and communications capabilities for R&D purposes. It joins three Gulfstream IVs and a Cessna 206, which are already maintained by the facility.
In addition to these aircraft, the facility also houses a leased Twin Otter. The Saab 340, now a permanent fixture, replaces the temporary leasing arrangement, ensuring consistent access to its unique capabilities for future projects.
The acquisition of the Saab 340 aircraft benefits Lincoln Laboratory sponsors by reducing costs and providing long-term access to its specialized capabilities. The Flight Test Facility continues to expand its fleet, now comprising five government-owned aircraft, supporting the organization's research and development efforts.
