Meta's AI-powered smart glasses generate buzz in premarket, signaling potential growth for tech giant

In an exciting development, Meta, the tech giant behind Facebook, has announced the launch of its new AI-powered smart glasses, the Meta Ray-Ban Display. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's CEO, believes that these glasses will one day surpass smartphones as the primary personal computing device for most people.

The Meta Ray-Ban Display will be available for purchase starting September 30, priced at $799. This device is unique as it allows AI to see what the user sees, hear what the user hears, and talk to the user throughout the day.

The smart glasses feature a high-resolution see-through display on the right lens, which can be used for reading messages, receiving video calls, and following map directions. The built-in 12-megapixel camera allows users to take photos and record videos.

The Meta Ray-Ban Display can be controlled using a wristband, which is claimed to be the 'world's first mainstream neural interface' that can detect gestures and hand movements. At launch, the device will support Meta's own apps, including WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Third-party apps like Spotify will also be available.

An Instagram app will be available, but will only support direct messages at launch. The glasses will be sold at EssilorLuxottica's stores, Best Buy, and specific Verizon outlets.

Zuckerberg describes the Meta Ray-Ban Display as a significant step toward smart glasses with display and AI support, aiming at the fusion of humans and digital intelligence. However, he envisions the fully functional 'primary personal superintelligence device' only with the future 'Orion' glasses in 2027, which he calls a 'time machine to the future'.

Meta's share price rose more than 1% in premarket trading on Thursday, reaching $783. With the launch of the Meta Ray-Ban Display, Meta is making a bold move towards redefining personal computing, offering a device that promises to keep users connected while staying present in the moment.
