Meta unveils Group Voice and Video Calls for WhatsApp on Mac, with additional functionalities!

WhatsApp has expanded its capabilities on Mac desktops and laptops with the introduction of a group calling feature, marking a significant step in bringing the desktop experience closer to using the messenger on mobile devices.

Following its update for Windows systems earlier this year, which introduced group video calling, better device syncing, and new linking features, Meta has now rolled out these enhancements to its Mac app.

The new group calling feature enables Mac users to engage in video calls with up to eight individuals and voice calls with up to 32 participants. Additionally, users can now view their call history and receive call notifications even when the app is not in operation.

For a more seamless user experience and parity with other desktop messengers, Meta has also enabled file drop-and-drag functionality directly into the chatbox for Mac users. Furthermore, users can now view their chat history on Mac systems with a further reach than before.

In an official statement, Meta emphasized that these improvements have been designed to elevate the user experience on large screens. The updated app is allegedly tailored to be familiar to Mac users, promising increased ease and efficiency when utilizing WhatsApp on larger devices.

These updates are likely to enhance the user experience for Mac users running WhatsApp on their desktops and laptops. It could potentially facilitate a transition of professional workflows to WhatsApp, possibly prompting Meta to accelerate the rollout of such updates.

Note: While recent developments have seen WhatsApp launch a dedicated app for iPad that includes features like video and audio calls with up to 32 people, screen sharing, and a two-column layout for multitasking, these features have not been specifically mentioned as part of the Mac app update. Furthermore, WhatsApp has been testing new features, such as AI wallpapers, summarizing long chat threads, and message organization enhancements across its platforms, but these are not directly related to the Mac app update either.

As always, it is essential to consult the official WhatsApp blog or release notes for the most accurate information on the latest Mac app updates.

Users can now experience enhanced interactivity with the new group calling feature available on smartwatches, as Meta incorporates this function into its WhatsApp application. Furthermore, the updated Mac app not only supports smart-home-devices integration but also promises a smoother user experience when managing files with the newly added drop-and-drag functionality for laptops.
