Meta to launch additional VR headsets sporting Horizon OS - here's the latest info

In the ever-evolving world of technology, Virtual Reality (VR) continues to be a hot topic. Recently, several exciting announcements have been made by tech giants Meta and Microsoft, along with partners Asus and Lenovo.

Starting with Meta, they have confirmed that the much-anticipated Meta Quest 3S Xbox Edition headset is on the horizon. This collaboration with Microsoft promises to bring a unique gaming experience, incorporating the familiarity of the Xbox controller and Elite Strap, as well as offering three months of Game Pass Ultimate for cloud gaming on the headset.

Meanwhile, Meta has also been overseeing the development of VR headsets from Asus and Lenovo. While the release of these new headsets has been delayed, both companies have shared their vision for their products. Lenovo aims to create mixed reality devices for productivity, learning, and entertainment, while Asus' ROG is expected to be an "all-new performance gaming headset."

Rumours suggest that these headsets will be built on Meta Horizon OS, as previously announced in April 2024. This operating system is expected to expand to more devices, similar to how the Lenovo Legion Go S comes with Valve's SteamOS.

The Asus ROG VR headset, known as the "Tarius," is rumoured to come with eye-tracking and face-tracking, and either QD-LCD or micro-OLED displays.

As for the future, there are whispers of a Meta Quest 4 arriving in 2027.

Microsoft has also been busy, overseeing the development of VR headsets from Asus and Lenovo, which have faced a delay in their release. The company is reportedly awaiting the announcement of new Snapdragon chips, such as the Snapdragon X2 Series, before moving forward with these projects.

Meta's collaboration with Qualcomm suggests that these upcoming headsets will be powered by Snapdragon processors, which could lead to improved performance and battery life.

In other Meta news, the company is actively working to bring Horizon OS to more devices. This includes the possible arrival of a "Steam Frame" VR headset soon.

The Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses and Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) specs are other devices to look forward to from Meta. These devices, along with Meta's Hyperspace, which allows scanning the real world and turning it into the Metaverse, with new AI tools for creation, promise to further blur the lines between the physical and digital worlds.

Interestingly, Xbox Cloud Gaming also works on Meta's current VR headsets, including the Quest 2. This partnership could pave the way for even more gaming possibilities in the future.

Despite the excitement, it is not certain when these new headsets will be revealed. The Meta Connect 2025 event showcased smart glasses, but no VR headsets were in sight.

In conclusion, the future of Virtual Reality is looking bright, with Meta and partners announcing new headsets and continuing to develop innovative technologies that promise to revolutionise the way we experience the digital world.
