Meta Clarifies Subscription Plans: No Core Fee, Optional Ad-Free & Verified Services
Rumours of a monthly subscription fee for Facebook have been circulating online for years, causing concern among users. Meta, the parent company, has now clarified its subscription plans.
Meta has introduced two optional subscription services: Meta Verified and an ad-free subscription. Meta Verified offers a blue verification badge, improved security, and priority support for €12-15 per month. The ad-free subscription, available in Europe, removes ads from Facebook and Instagram for a monthly fee.
Both services are optional and do not affect the core free features of Facebook, such as posting, messaging, and joining groups. Meta has confirmed that Facebook will remain free for all users worldwide. These subscriptions are linked to GDPR compliance in the EU and are not a global shift to paid access.
Despite persistent rumours, Facebook is not introducing a monthly subscription fee for its core service. Meta's new subscription offerings are optional and cater to specific user needs. Users can continue enjoying Facebook for free with ads or opt for the new subscription services if desired.
