Mercedes-Benz broadens its plug-in hybrid offerings as they rolled out the GLA 250 e model in Australia.
The Mercedes-Benz brand is set to unveil its latest offering, the 2025 GLA 250 e Plug-in Hybrid. This innovative vehicle combines a 2.0L inline-4 turbocharged engine with a hybrid electric motor, delivering a balanced powertrain that promises enhanced fuel efficiency and performance.
At the heart of the GLA 250 e is a lithium-ion traction battery, which supports electric driving and regenerative braking. The powertrain is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, complete with paddle shifters and DYNAMIC SELECT driving modes.
The GLA 250 e offers both AWD 4MATIC® and FWD drivetrain options, ensuring versatility for various driving conditions. Other key performance features include engine auto stop-start for efficiency, a brake actuated limited slip differential, and a suspension system designed for optimal handling.
In terms of fuel economy, the GLA 250 e delivers approximately 25 MPG city and 33-34 MPG highway, depending on the drivetrain (AWD or FWD).
The exterior of the GLA 250 e exudes elegance with available colours such as Cirrus Silver Metallic and Polar White. Inside, options include Black MB-Tex with red stitching or Macchiato Beige/Black MB-Tex. The vehicle is equipped with a power liftgate, sunroof/moonroof, heated and memory power seats with keyless entry, and more.
When it comes to technology and safety, the GLA 250 e doesn't disappoint. It offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, premium audio with 6 speakers, a backup camera, parking sensors, and Parktronic parking assist. Safety features include a blind spot monitor, multiple airbags, tire pressure monitoring, and driver alert systems. Some trims even include wireless phone charging and satellite radio readiness.
The GLA 250 e also boasts a driver monitoring alert system and a baby smart child seat sensor. Additional features include Bluetooth connectivity, fog lights, and interior accents and dual-zone climate control available on some models.
Buyers can opt for an upgraded 11 kW AC charging system for faster top-ups at an additional cost of $800 (MRLP). The 360° Parking Package is standard equipment on the GLA 250 e, and the vehicle comes equipped with DISTRONIC Active Distance Assist with Lane Keeping Assist.
The GLA 250 e is priced at $78,000 (MRLP) and is part of Mercedes-Benz's EQ hybrid portfolio, which includes the C 350 e. The vehicle can offer up to 65 km of pure electric driving (WLTP-tested).
The AMG Line Package for the GLA 250 e includes sport seats, Nappa leather steering wheel, AMG floor mats, sports suspension, and styling. The GLA 250 e comes with Progressive Line exterior styling and 18" alloy wheels.
Other features include Blind Spot Assist, PARKTRONIC, and THERMOTRONIC 2-zone climate control. The GLA 250 e also offers wireless phone charging and full hybrid-specific cockpit data displays.
The GLA 250 e is powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an 11.5 kWh lithium-ion battery. The Plus Package for the GLA 250 e includes Burmester® sound, MBUX Augmented Reality, head-up display, MULTIBEAM LED lighting, and more.
The GLA 250 e offers a blend of electric efficiency and petrol engine flexibility. Orders for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 e open online and through dealerships from 17 July. The Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 e plug-in hybrid will be available in Australian showrooms from July 17, 2025.
