Mercedes-AMG Unveils SLS AMG Roadster at Frankfurt Motor Show
Mercedes-AMG is set to unveil the SLS AMG Roadster at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The company has revealed official photos and details of the upcoming convertible, which has undergone extensive testing and will enter production in a few months.
The SLS AMG Roadster features a bonded-in rear window made of single-layer safety glass, providing both style and safety. Its top speed is an impressive 197 mph. To ensure a smooth ride, Mercedes has added structural reinforcements to the windshield frame and rear axle, preventing vibration and limiting weight increase.
The roadster's cloth roof is a marvel of engineering, comprising three layers of fabric, magnesium, steel, and aluminum. It can be raised or lowered at up to 31 mph with minimal noise or flapping. For added support, a reinforcing cross-member has been fitted behind the seats to accommodate the rollover protection and the subwoofer for the high-end Bang & Olufsen sound system.
The SLS Roadster was first spotted in spy photos in 2010, with initial expectations of a 2010 Geneva Motor Show debut. However, it was later seen in Hamburg, hinting at a possible New York Motor Show debut in 2011, before its confirmed Frankfurt Motor Show reveal in 2012.
