Major Roadworks Begin in Düsseldorf: A46/A59 Junction Closures Ahead
Motorists in the Düsseldorf area should prepare for significant roadworks and closures as Autobahn GmbH Rhineland embarks on a major renovation project at the Düsseldorf-South motorway junction (A46/A59). The work aims to improve traffic flow in the region, but it will also cause temporary disruptions.
The project, part of the final construction phase, will see the complete rebuild of the junction. During this time, only one of three lanes will be available on the A46 in the direction of Wuppertal between the Düsseldorf-Holthausen interchange and the junction. Traffic from the A46 coming from Neuss will be redirected onto the A59 towards Leverkusen via a temporary intersection structure.
The direct connection from the A46 to the A59 will be closed for several nights, from 8 PM to 10 AM or 5 AM, starting from Friday, 11.10. to Sunday, 13.10., and again from Tuesday, 15.10. to Friday, 18.10. The on-ramp from Düsseldorf-Eller towards Wuppertal will remain closed until the project's completion, expected in late 2024 or early 2025. In the future, the direct connection from Eller will be led under the intersection structure directly onto the A46 towards Wuppertal.
While the closure of the Düsseldorf-Eller interchange and the temporary diversions may cause inconvenience, the project is expected to bring significant improvements to traffic flow in the Düsseldorf, Wuppertal, and Cologne triangle once completed.
