LVM Insurance Pioneers Flexible Work Since 1995, Now Supports 2,500 Remote Workers
LVM Insurance, a leading German insurer, has been at the forefront of flexible working since the mid-1990s. Initially starting with a pilot project involving 35 employees, the company now supports over 2,500 workers with various home office models, ranging from 60% remote work to full-time presence at the LVM campus.
The journey began in 1995 when LVM introduced its in-house developed LVM Agency System, enabling secure decentralised data access. The first home office tester, Doris Kemper-Lüfkens, praised the option for its impact on her job satisfaction and work-life balance. Despite initial technical challenges, particularly with telephone connections, the model has evolved and been widely adopted.
Today, LVM offers up to two weeks of mobile working time per year, allowing employees to work from abroad. Each team still meets at the LVM campus for at least two days a month for onboarding, knowledge transfer, and joint tasks. The home office model has proven successful, saving space, energy, and costs, while contributing significantly to employee satisfaction and work-life balance. This has strengthened LVM's appeal as an employer.
From a small pilot project in 1995 to supporting over 2,500 employees today, LVM Insurance's flexible working models have become a staple. The home office option, while initially challenging, has evolved to benefit both employees and the company, saving resources and boosting satisfaction. LVM continues to refine its approach, offering mobile working time and regular team meetings on campus.
