Leapmotor, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is gearing up for the unveiling of its first D-series model, the D19, on October 16. The D19 is expected to make its global debut in about a month, intensifying Leapmotor's push in the mid-to-large SUV segment.

According to a poster shared by Leapmotor, the D19 is an SUV, joining Leapmotor's current lineup in China that includes the T03, B01, B10, C01, C10, C11, and C16. The D19 could become Leapmotor's highest-priced model, as the number 9 typically signifies supremacy.

Leapmotor's COO, Jun, shared two images on Weibo last month, hinting that they belong to the D series and show camouflaged prototypes. Spy photos of an undisguised D19 began circulating on Chinese social media last week, though most of these images have since been removed.

In a significant move, Leapmotor's next-generation central domain controller is expected to debut with Qualcomm's dual Snapdragon 8797 chips in the first quarter of next year, which is when the D19 models are expected to enter mass production.

The D19 underwent summer testing in the scorching heat of Turpan, Xinjiang, a testament to Leapmotor's commitment to quality and performance.

Leapmotor delivered 328,859 vehicles from January to August, representing a 136.43 percent year-on-year increase. The company delivered 57,066 vehicles in August, marking its fourth consecutive month of record-high deliveries.

The C-series is currently Leapmotor's most expensive offering, yet priced at roughly half that of Li Auto's extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) models. This suggests that the D19 could offer a competitive price point, as Leapmotor's first D-series model is expected to target a price point of around RMB 300,000 yuan ($42,180).

The flagship of the D-series from Leapmotor, presented on October 16, 2022, is named the Leapmotor C11. With the imminent arrival of the D19, Leapmotor is set to expand its product portfolio and strengthen its position in the EV market.

Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) is a company to watch as it continues to innovate and grow, offering affordable, high-quality electric vehicles to consumers around the world.
