Leapmotor leads way with grant-funded reductions on electric vehicles
The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, Leapmotor, has launched its self-funded EV incentive programme, the LEAP-GRANT, in the UK on July 18, 2025. This initiative offers discounts of up to £3,750 on Leapmotor's electric vehicles, providing immediate savings and clarity for customers, ahead of the UK government's official Electric Car Grant scheme which begins next month [1][2][4][5].
The LEAP-GRANT programme is available across Leapmotor's dealer network and makes the transition to electric cars a simple choice. The programme is independent of the government's EV incentive scheme and applies specifically to Leapmotor models, with no sustainability bands or delayed qualification [1][2][3].
In comparison, the UK government's EV incentive scheme, which will be fully operational by mid-August 2025, offers up to £3,750 for BEVs priced ≤£37,000. However, the scheme includes two tiers, with Band One receiving the full £3,750 and Band Two getting £1,500. The eligibility of Chinese-built cars, like the Leapmotor models, under the government scheme is uncertain due to sustainability qualification [1][3].
The Leapmotor T03, the most affordable electric car in the UK at £14,495, is now even more competitive with the Dacia Spring, thanks to the LEAP-GRANT. The Dacia Spring, a rival to the Leapmotor T03, currently costs £14,995. On Personal Contract Purchase (PCP), the Leapmotor T03 can be had for £169 per month with a £169 deposit, both at 0% APR [1].
Similarly, the Leapmotor C10 family SUV, now available at £32,750 after a £3,750 grant is applied, can be purchased for £319 per month with a £319 deposit, also at 0% APR on PCP [1]. Both the Leapmotor T03 and C10 models are backed by a four-year warranty.
Damien Dally, Managing Director of Leapmotor UK, stated that the initiative aims to make the transition to electric cars easier for UK drivers [2]. By offering immediate savings and clarity, Leapmotor's LEAP-GRANT gives potential buyers confidence without waiting for bureaucratic processes or confirmation of eligibility under the government scheme [2][3].
In summary, Leapmotor's LEAP-GRANT preempts the UK government's EV grant by offering comparable maximum discounts earlier, applies specifically to Leapmotor models with clear terms, and is self-funded rather than government-backed. This positions Leapmotor as the first in the UK market to provide a dedicated incentive for Chinese-built EVs (and their Polish-made models) without the administrative or sustainability hurdles of the official governmental program [1][2][3][5].
