Launch of the extended-range Tesla Model Y, equipped with a blinker lever and front camera, in the Asian market
Tesla Refreshes Model Y, Offers Enhanced Features in China
Tesla has unveiled an updated version of its popular Model Y electric SUV, offering improved range, new features, and a sleeker design in the Chinese market.
The new Model Y, available in a special Launch Series, boasts increased range for both the base and larger battery versions. The base model now offers a range of 593 kilometers, a slight improvement from the previous version, while the model with the larger battery has seen a significant increase of 31 kilometers, bringing its range to 719 kilometers according to the China standard.
Orders for the new Model Y in the special launch edition are now open on the Chinese website, with deliveries expected to begin in March. The refreshed Model Y will be supplied to the Taiwan market from Tesla's Gigafactory in German Grünheide.
The exterior design of the Model Y has been primarily altered at the front and rear, similar to the Model 3, with the front trunk lid drawn lower, giving the electric vehicle a sleeker appearance. The previous blue color of the Model Y has been replaced with a lighter, more metallic finish.
Inside the vehicle, Tesla has introduced new seats with the rear ones extended by 15 millimeters and the headrests widened for added comfort. The Model Y now features a continuous light bar, similar to the Cybertruck and Cybercab.
The new Model Y is available in two variants, with the Model Y with the smaller battery and rear-wheel drive priced at 263,500 RMB (around €35,000), and the version with all-wheel drive and the larger battery starting at 303,500 RMB (around €40,000). Prices for the new Model Y have increased by about 5%.
Another notable feature is the return of the classic lever for activating the turn signal, a departure from the previous touch-sensitive controls.
It's important to note that the launch of the refreshed Model Y is not happening simultaneously worldwide. Tesla had previously introduced the new Model 3 in China and Europe before the US. The production of the refreshed Model Y at the German Tesla factory (Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg) started in June 2025, according to Tesla's quarterly report, with a market launch expected in the third quarter of 2025 and first deliveries anticipated soon after.
While initial sales growth has been lower than expected in several European countries despite the update, the Model Y has been officially launched in Asia, marking another step in Tesla's expansion in the region. The refreshed Model Y is set to bring improved range, enhanced features, and a sleeker design to Tesla's growing customer base.
