Latvia Tightens Drone Rules: Mandatory Registration, Weight-Based Limits
Drone enthusiasts in Latvia must adhere to new regulations, with the Latvian Civil Aviation Agency (Civilluftsatiksmes aģentūra) overseeing registration and providing essential information. Key rules include flight distance limits, weight-based regulations, and mandatory training for heavier drones.
Pilots must keep their drone within sight at all times, restricting flight distance to around 200 meters. Drones under 250 grams face simpler regulations than heavier ones. All drones, regardless of weight, must be marked with a registration number.
Before each flight, pilots must consult a map on the Civil Aviation Agency's homepage to check for flight bans or coordination requirements. Drone registration is mandatory, costing five euros annually. It can be completed on a dedicated website created by the agency. For drones over 250 grams, mandatory training courses are also required.
In Latvia, drone use is regulated based on weight, with flight distance limits and mandatory registration. Pilots must check maps for restrictions before each flight. The Civil Aviation Agency ensures drone owners have necessary information and enforces these rules.
