In a significant move towards developing electric vehicles in France, the Renault Group has teamed up with SERMA, an independent inspection body specializing in automotive expertise and compliance. This collaboration will see the transformation of the Renault Group Technical Center in Lardy, with SERMA setting up state-of-the-art facilities for electrical testing.

The Renault Group will fund the transformation of the building, while SERMA will invest in the realization of the electrical testing means. This partnership will enable SERMA to conduct various types of tests, including power electronics tests on chargers, converters, and inverters, as well as electric motor tests.

The laboratory at Lardy is a crucial link in the value chain of the electric vehicle. It will also house energy storage system tests on cycling benches and climatic chambers, allowing for the testing of batteries under various extreme conditions. Abusive tests, designed to study the behavior and reactions of batteries beyond standard specifications, will also be conducted. These tests are intended to ensure the reliability and safety of electric vehicles.

Event generation, creating extreme scenarios that could cause failures or incidents, is another aspect of the abusive tests that SERMA will conduct. The integration of SERMA into the electrical activities of the Lardy site will constitute an additional asset for the overall engineering performance, notably in terms of reactivity.

The first tests performed by SERMA at the Renault Group Technical Center in Lardy are expected to begin in early 2025. This partnership is an additional step in the transformation of the site towards 100% electric. The 3,500 m² building provided by the Renault Group Technical Center will be dedicated to electrical tests and abusive tests by SERMA.

It's worth noting that the Battery Cell Research Laboratory was established in Lardy in 2022, further solidifying the site's focus on electric vehicle technology. This partnership between Renault Group and SERMA is part of Renault Group's larger strategy to develop electric vehicles in France.

SERMA, based in Bonn, Germany, is part of the SERMA Group with origins in France. The official start date of the collaboration with the Renault Group Technical Center in Lardy is not specified in the available information. However, the partnership allows the Lardy Technical Center to repurpose certain premises previously dedicated to thermal engine validation, signifying a shift towards a more sustainable and electric future.
