Kimber Unveils R7 Mako: Affordable, Optic-Ready, Reliable 9mm Carry Gun

Kimber has unveiled the R7 Mako, a new micro-compact, polymer-framed, double-stack 9 mm carry gun that stands out with its optic-ready design and impressive reliability. The R7 Mako is set to hit the market at an affordable price point of around $600.

The R7 Mako boasts a beveled, machined-steel slide with an open ejection port on the right, keeping gases and brass away from the optic. It features aggressive 360-degree grip stippling and an ultra-thin beavertail for enhanced control. Notably, Kimber has addressed a common sighting issue by installing TruGlo tritium tall sights that can be used even if the optic's batteries fail.

The Mako's 3.37-inch barrel comes with a deep-cut muzzle crown, and its trigger is one of the best factory striker-fired triggers available, averaging 4.5 pounds with minimal creep. The gun is reliable, with only one jam in 500 rounds of testing. Despite its 19-ounce weight and 1-inch thickness, the R7 Mako conceals well and holds 14 rounds. It loves premium ammo and averaged 0.90 groups at 10 yards with a red-dot sight, an outstanding performance for a carry gun of its size.

The Kimber R7 Mako offers an impressive combination of features, reliability, and affordability. Its optic-ready design, advanced sighting system, and comfortable grip make it a strong contender in the micro-compact 9 mm carry gun market. With a price tag of around $600, it provides excellent value for money.
