Japanese automaker Honda to debut electric-powered N-ONE e: model in Japan market

The Japanese market is set to welcome a new electric vehicle (EV) this fall, as Honda unveils its second electric kei car, the N-ONE e:. This compact EV promises to offer a unique blend of efficiency, urban usability, and practical range, making it an attractive option for city dwellers.

The N-ONE e: is eligible for a subsidy of 574,000 yen (approximately €3,300) in Japan, adding to its appeal. Honda has designed the N-ONE e: with a more futuristic and charming exterior, featuring a clamshell hood, flattened top of round headlights, a wide, upright front section, and clear LED taillights. The car rides on 14-inch lightweight alloy wheels with six spokes.

Inside, the N-ONE e: boasts a more upscale interior compared to its predecessor. The dashboard has been redesigned with a uniform appearance, and the center console is more intuitive with push-button gear selection. The steering wheel, a two-spoke design, adds to the modern feel.

The L trim level of the N-ONE e: comes equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring satellite navigation. The car's digital instrument cluster provides drivers with essential information at a glance.

Under the hood, the N-ONE e: is powered by a single front electric motor producing 64 PS (47 kW) and 162 Nm of torque. This setup is shared with the Honda N-Van e: model. The car is equipped with a 29.6 kWh battery pack, which delivers a WLTP range of up to 270 km. This range is longer than comparable kei EVs like the Nissan Sakura and Mitsubishi eK X EV, and also slightly better than the N-Van e:'s range.

The N-ONE e: offers dual charging ports located at the front. The right charging port supports AC charging points, while the left enables fast charging. The car also features V2L (Vehicle to Load) functionality, enabling it to power household devices and gadgets in emergencies.

In addition, the N-ONE e: supports bidirectional charging via Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), allowing customers to use it as an emergency power source during power outages.

Honda will offer the N-ONE e: in G and L trim levels. However, the company has not yet announced whether it plans to sell the N-ONE e: on international markets.

In Japan, kei cars are subcompact vehicles with a maximum length of 3.40 meters and a width of 1.48 meters, with limited engine power. The N-ONE e: stands out in this segment due to its focus on efficiency, urban usability, and practical range.

With its combination of style, technology, and performance, the N-ONE e: is poised to make a significant impact in the Japanese EV market this fall.
