The Chinese electric vehicle (EV) landscape is about to get more competitive with the upcoming launch of Li Auto's Li i8, a premium six-seater electric SUV. Scheduled for release in late July 2025, the Li i8 promises a blend of spaciousness, technology, and performance, positioning itself as a contender in the high-end EV market.
The Li i8 boasts a powerful dual-motor all-wheel drive (4WD) system, with a combined peak power output of 536 hp (400 kW). The front motor generates 150 kW (201 hp), while the rear motor delivers a robust 250 kW (335 hp). This setup ensures a top speed of approximately 180 km/h, making the Li i8 a formidable player in the EV market.
In terms of battery and range, the Li i8 offers two options. The entry-level model comes equipped with a 90.1 kWh ternary NMC battery, offering a range of 670 km under CLTC conditions. The top-trim version features a larger 97.8 kWh battery, providing a maximum range of 720 km (CLTC).
The Li i8's dimensions are impressive, measuring 5085 mm in length, 1960 mm in width, and 1740 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3050 mm. The interior features a premium six-seat layout (2+2+2), dual 15.7-inch center console screens, a D-shaped steering wheel, and a head-up display.
The Li i8's price in China is expected to range between 350,000 to 400,000 yuan (48,800 - 55,800 USD). This puts it in the high-end EV market, competing with other premium electric SUVs.
The Li i8's design is reminiscent of the Li Mega, with features such as hidden door handles, blackened exterior side mirrors, and multi-spoke 20/21-inch rims. The interior adopts a white background, and the center console comes with a built-in 5°C to 50°C refrigerator.
The Li i8 is also equipped with advanced driving assistance capabilities, as suggested by the Hesai ATL lidar onboard. Li Auto has also surpassed Tesla in China with 2,500 5C supercharging stations.
Under 5C fast-charging, the Li i8 can recharge 500 km of range in just 10 minutes. The second row seats support 14-way electric adjustment and have an 8-point massage function, making long journeys more comfortable.
The Li i8's cockpit is equipped with a 15.7-inch 2.5K central control screen and a 15.7-inch co-pilot entertainment screen, ensuring a seamless user experience.
While the Li i8 is set to make its debut in China, no official information about global release dates or pricing outside China has been announced as of yet. However, the Chinese market launch is confirmed for July 2025.
