Ian Robinson: A Creative Pioneer in Motion Graphics

Ian Robinson, a renowned figure in the world of motion graphics, has carved out an impressive career spanning over two decades. His work has graced the screens of Discovery, Animal Planet, and National Geographic, among others.

Robinson's journey into the motion graphics industry began in the Washington DC area, where he landed a job at a post house following a recommendation from his college professor. This early start marked the beginning of a creative journey that would lead him to become a founder, a co-founder, and a LinkedIn Learning trainer.

Robinson is the founder of SoftBox Media and the co-founder of Creative111. In addition to these roles, he has made a name for himself as a trainer on LinkedIn Learning, where his course titled "Motion: Principles of Motion Graphics" offers insights into the world of motion graphics.

Robinson's creative prowess extends beyond the realm of motion graphics. He is also an author and has contributed to various creative concepts, as evidenced by his profile on Stage 32. This broad creative background likely played a significant role in his transition into the motion graphics industry and his subsequent success as a trainer.

When not immersed in the world of motion graphics, Robinson can be found pursuing his passions outside of work. A lover of nature, he often escapes to the mountains of Colorado to recharge, engaging in winter sports such as skiing or snowboarding to combat creative burnout.

In terms of snacks, Robinson has a few favourites. An apple with peanut butter or almond butter is a go-to choice during an epic session, while carrots and hummus also feature on his list.

Looking back on his career, Robinson is most proud of his teaching career and the impact it has had on others. He has helped many start their careers and has inspired countless others with his work. If given the opportunity, he would love to collaborate with the late director Alfred Hitchcock.

Robinson's new Boris FX training series is soon to be released, and he can be found on Twitter and Instagram. For a deeper insight into Robinson's creative process, his extended interview can be heard on the podcast "Flow State: Stories from the Creative Process." His go-to Boris FX plugins include Sapphire, Mocha Pro, and Continuum.

If you're looking to delve into the world of motion graphics, Robinson's LinkedIn Learning course is a great place to start. His advice to his younger self - strive for more balance in life and work - is a testament to his wisdom and experience.

  • Ian Robinson's impact extends beyond motion graphics, as he also pens articles on lifestyle and entertainment, sharing insights from his diverse experiences.
  • In his downtime, Robinson embraces technology, using apps to plan and track his adventures in the Colorado mountains, integrating technology into his lifestyle seamlessly.
