Interactive map for mobile phone services to be launched in Herford County
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the state's mobile network coverage data is updated quarterly on a dedicated dashboard at www.mobilfunk.nrw. This valuable resource is based on data from the Federal Network Agency's mobile monitoring.
While over 98% of the state's area is covered by at least one network provider offering 4G or 5G, there are still areas known as "gray spots" where coverage is not comprehensive. Approximately 11% of the state's area falls into this category, meaning that while at least one provider offers 4G or 5G, not all providers do.
District Administrator Jürgen Müller recognises the importance of mobile network measurements, citing their role in improving connectivity, promoting economic growth, making education more accessible, and being crucial for emergency communication.
In the district of Herford, efforts are being made to address these coverage gaps. Jan Ahring, the district's mobile manager, has stated that measurements will be performed at regular intervals to ensure the most up-to-date picture possible. The data for the Herford district can be accessed through the district's Geoportal at https://geoportal.ourwebsite or directly at [https://geoportal.ourwebsite/mobilfunk].
Birgit Rehberg, head of the responsible department for district development and climate protection, emphasises the importance of a stable mobile network in promoting digital education, ensuring safe work, and reducing unnecessary journeys, thereby benefiting both people and the environment.
Unfortunately, 1.4% of the state's area remains uncovered by either 4G or 5G, known as "white spots". In Herford, local telecommunications specialists Müller Telekommunikation and Ahring Netzservice are actively involved in the district's mobile network coverage measurements and data provision.
These initiatives in Herford demonstrate a commitment to improving mobile network coverage, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that everyone in North Rhine-Westphalia has access to reliable mobile network services.
