Initially, the initial stage of Silksong was expanded to provide a gentler onboarding experience, as explained by Team Cherry, who aimed to show consideration towards players, intending not to overwhelm them.

In a recent interview conducted by Jini Maxwell and published on September 5, the masterminds behind the acclaimed game "Hollow Knight," William Pellen and Ari Gibson, shared insights about their highly-anticipated sequel, "Hollow Knight: Silksong."

One of the significant locations in Silksong is the Moss Grotto, a rare patch of green nestled at the bottom of Pharloom, outside the reach of the central citadel's corrupting influence. The Moss Grotto, it seems, is more than just a picturesque backdrop; it's a crucial part of the game's main plot and background lore.

However, the developers have kept the deeper lore simmering in the background of Silksong under wraps, leaving fans eager for more details. As for how Moss Grotto becomes such an important location in the game, the developers have yet to elaborate.

Interestingly, Moss Grotto was initially developed later to round out The Marrow, the first major area of the game's world of Pharloom. However, The Marrow was deemed too brutal an introduction, and so, Moss Grotto was designed to be a calmer space that helps players easily acquaint themselves with the game's control scheme and Hornet's agility and complex moveset.

Hornet, the protagonist of Silksong, is indeed faster and more skillful than the Knight from the original game. This, the developers assert, makes Silksong a more challenging experience. Ari Gibson described the game's approach as being "kind of respectful to the player," not trying to "baby them."

The Moss Grotto serves as a soft, verdant platform from which Hornet launches into all manner of hostile wreck and ruin. It's a load-bearing column in the world of Pharloom, providing a much-needed respite before the storm.

When asked about the reason behind Hornet's enhanced abilities, the developers remained tight-lipped, leaving fans to speculate about the character's backstory and capabilities.

Building a game world, according to Gibson, is similar to a writer's character taking over and making decisions, with the world suggesting what else is going to exist. The Moss Grotto, it seems, was no exception to this rule.

Team Cherry emphasized that Silksong needed to be a world built from spaces, not a series of levels with clear design fingerprints. This approach ensures that each area, including the Moss Grotto, feels organic and integral to the game's overall narrative.

The developers also mentioned that players can use Elden Ring logic to get around the difficulty in Silksong. This suggests that Silksong, like its predecessor, rewards patience, exploration, and strategic thinking.

In Silksong, players control Hornet, who finds herself in captivity and on the brink of escape in the kingdom of Pharloom. The gameplay begins in a lush green dungeon as Hornet embarks on her journey upward through the kingdom, facing powerful enemies and solving ancient puzzles.

The Moss Grotto, it appears, is the actual first area of Silksong, providing a gentle introduction to a world that will test even the most seasoned of gamers. With its intricate design, rich lore, and challenging gameplay, Silksong promises to be a worthy successor to the original Hollow Knight.
