IBU-tec Launches Battery Recycling Pilot Plant with Hosokawa Alpine

IBU-tec advanced materials AG has launched a pilot plant for battery recycling at its Weimar site, in collaboration with Hosokawa Alpine. The plant aims to recycle coated cathode foils and efficiently process battery materials, supported by IBU-tec's expertise and Hosokawa Alpine's machinery. This move aligns with the growing global battery recycling market, projected to reach over USD 38 billion by 2032, with a CAGR of over 50%.

The pilot plant is a result of a partnership between IBU-tec and Hosokawa Alpine. IBU-tec brings its know-how in battery material recycling to the table, while Hosokawa Alpine provides the necessary machinery. The plant's goal is to recycle coated cathode foils, a crucial component in battery production. This initiative is bolstered by the EU Battery Regulation, which is driving growth in the battery recycling sector.

IBU-tec's mills are designed to process not only its own battery materials but also support customer projects in the battery sector. The company has previously worked with Duesenfeld to build a pilot plant for battery recycling at the Weimar site.

The pilot plant at IBU-tec's Weimar site is set to play a significant role in the growing battery recycling market. By recycling coated cathode foils and processing battery materials efficiently, it aims to contribute to a circular economy for batteries. The plant's success will depend on the collaboration between IBU-tec's expertise and Hosokawa Alpine's machinery, supported by the EU Battery Regulation.
