In a significant move to enhance charging convenience for its electric vehicle (EV) owners in the United States, Hyundai is now offering a free authorized adapter that allows select Hyundai EV models to access Tesla's Supercharger network[1].

Starting the week of April 7, eligible owners will receive an email notification with instructions on how to claim their complimentary adapter[2]. To participate, owners must have an active MyHyundai account and opt in to email communications[4]. Eligible customers must also verify their account details and accept the adapter's terms and conditions through their MyHyundai account[5].

The new CCS-to-NACS adapter is compatible with Hyundai's advanced e-GMP high-voltage platform and is aimed at enhancing charging convenience for owners of the Hyundai KONA Electric, IONIQ Electric hatchback, IONIQ 5, and IONIQ 6[6].

Hyundai's investment in the IONNA high-speed charging network and this initiative are part of the company's broader strategy to improve EV adoption in the U.S.[7] The company plans to integrate NACS ports directly into future models, eliminating the need for adapters[8]. The 2025 IONIQ 5, 2026 IONIQ 9, and all upcoming Hyundai EVs will include native NACS ports as standard equipment[8].

This development aligns with Tesla's decision to open its Supercharger network to non-Tesla EVs by providing access via adapters to their unique plug design, broadening charging options beyond Tesla vehicles[3].

Hyundai Motor Canada plans to announce its own strategy for NACS access later this year[9]. In addition, Hyundai customers will have incentives for home charging solutions[10]. Once confirmed, the adapter will be shipped directly to the registered address[11].

For more information, customers can contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151 or visit Hyundai's official website, which will go live on April 1, 2025[12]. The website will provide details on the adapter, eligibility criteria, and special discounted charging rates for Hyundai EV owners.
