Historic El Molino Club in Barcelona Resumes Operations with Modern Technology Upgrades
El Molino Lives On with a Solid State Logic Live L100 Plus!
iste bloody 'ell! Barcelona, Spain's legendary El Molino club - recognized for over a century as a cultural staple - has decked out its sound system with a shiny new Solid State Logic Live L100 Plus mixing console. This puppy was installed in late 2024 after the joint renovated and revamped its sound, lighting, and stage technologies. The revamped venue entertains five nights a week, showcasing music, stand-up comedy, and, presumably, some wild shenanigans.
El Molino's tech director, Ramon Sendra Entrena - a seasoned veteran of the live sound biz with two decades under his belt - got tapped to equip the venue back in October 2024. In his words, "we wanted an immersive and engulfing audio system." After a heap of research, d&b Soundscape was selected as the winner.
The system's prowess demanded a mixing console that could communicate seamlessly with d&b's DS100 processor, deliver cracking clarity, and accommodate El Molino's diverse needs, including immersive audio, broadcast signals, and high-def audio for streaming and archiving purposes. It needed to be easy-peasy to use too, allowing every techno-geek to work their magic without tripping over a unfamiliar system. With all these demands, the L100 Plus, not-so-coincidentally, rose to the challenge.
Sendra, who's worked with SSL gear in music production joints, laid it out like this: "We've got SSL ML 32.32 analogue stagebox on stage, connected to the console via MADI, with a sweet backup system." The DS100 receives Dante signals from the L100 Plus through its primary and backup card connections, which are routed via fiber connected switchers wired up throughout the venue. The DS100 then processes the signals and sends 'em to the DS10 network bridge, which converts 'em into AES, powering the d&b amplifiers. The whole shebang runs at 96 kHz.
"The system is networked through d&b's En-Bridge solution, which lets us control the positioning of DS100 Soundscape En-Scene objects directly from SSL's dedicated d&b Soundscape control interface. This integration lets operators focus entirely on crafting the best possible mix without the hassle of switching between multiple interfaces," Sendra added with a smirk.
