Highlighted at SCN: Ford Center Unveils Over 3,000 Sq Ft of Visual Screens
The Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana, has recently undergone a significant upgrade, with the installation of a state-of-the-art LED display system. The project, scheduled for completion in 2024, was awarded in the fall of 2023.
At the heart of the renovation is a new centerhung display, replacing older technology with cutting-edge solutions. The centerpiece of the project hangs from the middle of the venue and features a continuous main video display wrapping around the centerhung structure. The main display boasts rounded corners and measures nearly 15x97 feet around.
Surrounding the main display, three double-sided displays have been installed on the basketball hoop stanchions. Each of these measures approximately 1x4 feet wide and features 2.5mm pixel spacing, ensuring sharp, clear visuals. Additionally, seven courtside scorers tables were installed, each measuring roughly 2.5x8 feet and featuring 5.9mm pixel spacing.
The new LED displays aim to appeal to every seat in the arena, with increased flexibility for creative and personalized events. The Ford Center's new 360-degree scoreboard offers this flexibility, allowing for dynamic content to be displayed across the various screens.
Four ribbon displays were installed along the seating fascia, ranging in length from 193.5 feet to 46 feet. Each ribbon display measures roughly 2.5 feet high and features 10mm pixel spacing. Combined, the ribbon displays provide 422.5 linear feet of digital display space.
The installation of the new LED displays went smoothly, with minimal challenges due to the project management team's extensive experience. Daktronics, the world leader in manufacturing and providing live-event LED display solutions, was selected for the project. Their large, reliable service team ensures ongoing support for the new displays.
As of now, the University of Evansville and University of Southern Indiana have yet to hold an event to gauge fan reaction to the new LED displays.
