High-speed train deliveries: Amazon accelerates package delivery with TGV service
Delivering packages just got faster and greener in Europe! Amazon has teamed up with SNCF to transport parcels via TGV high-speed trains. This innovative partnership was showcased on May 14, with special spaces being reserved for these new travelers.
TGV trains will now be part of Amazon's delivery fleet, bypassing the sluggish eight-hour truck journey on the Paris-Lyon route. The peculiar parcels will be loaded at the front and back of the train, utilizing typically empty and underused spaces. As Pierre Algarté, commercial manager of TGV holds, explains, these areas are well isolated from the passenger zone, ensuring there are no disruptions during the ride.
Initially, just 2,000 parcels will be traveling by TGV, but Amazon aims to increase this number to a whopping 500,000 packages by 2025. The goal is to speed up deliveries and extend the journey range.
Another compelling reason for this collaboration is environmental friendliness. TGV trains are less polluting than trucks, emitting on average 10 times less CO2 per kilometer. This eco-friendly approach aligns with Amazon's ambition to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
In the realm of e-commerce and transportation, the convergence of Amazon, SNCF, and TGV sets a new standard for speedy and sustainable delivery services.
The TGV trains, now incorporated into Amazon's delivery fleet, will transport parcels, leveraging technology for faster deliveries and reducing carbon emissions. Initially, 2,000 parcels will travel by TGV, with Amazon aiming to increase this number to 500,000 packages by 2025, symbolizing the fusion of transport and technology for greener and speedier delivery services.
