Vishay Introduces High-Performance, High-Temperature Inductors for Automotive Power Applications

Vishay Intertechnology, a leading manufacturer of discrete semiconductors and passive components, has announced the introduction of two new edge-wound, through-hole inductors – the IHDM-1107BBEV-2A and IHDM-1107BBEV-3A – designed for high current, high temperature power applications in the automotive industry.

These new inductors are specifically engineered for use in DC/DC converters, inverters, and on-board chargers found in internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid (HEV), and electric vehicles (EV). They offer a range of benefits that make them ideal for harsh automotive environments.

High Temperature Operation and High Current Capability

The IHDM-1107BBEV-2A and IHDM-1107BBEV-3A maintain stable inductance and saturation characteristics over a wide temperature range from -40°C to +180°C. They also offer 30% higher rated and soft saturation current levels at +125°C compared to ferrite-core alternatives, with saturation currents up to 422 A.

Low Power Losses and High Efficiency

Featuring low DC resistance (DCR) down to 0.22 mΩ, these inductors minimize conduction losses, which improves energy efficiency in power conversion circuits.

Stable Inductance and Soft Saturation

The powdered iron alloy core and edge-wound coil design provide a predictable inductance decrease with increasing current, independent of temperature, ensuring robust and stable operation.

High Isolation Voltage Rating and AEC-Q200 Qualification

Rated up to 350 V, the inductors enhance safety and reliability in automotive power systems. They also meet automotive industry standards, having been qualified for rigorous automotive reliability requirements.

Versatile Applications

Ideal for usage in DC/DC converters, inverters, and on-board chargers in ICE, HEV, and EV vehicles, the new inductors support efficient power management in diverse propulsion systems.

Customization and Availability

Vishay can customize the devices' performance and mounting options upon request. The inductors are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green. Samples and production quantities of the IHDM-1107BBEV-2A and IHDM-1107BBEV-3A are available now, with lead times of 14 weeks.

The new inductors are available with a selection of two core materials for optimized performance depending on the application. Standard terminals for the IHDM-1107BBEV-2A and IHDM-1107BBEV-3A are stripped and tinned for through-hole mounting.

However, some specific DC current values that affect temperature rise (ΔT) and inductor drop (L) for the IHDM-1107BBEV-2A and IHDM-1107BBEV-3A are currently undisclosed.
