GWM's Tank label reveals an upgraded Tank 500 model

The updated Tank 500, the latest offering from Great Wall Motor's personalized brand, is set to hit the market later this quarter. This off-road SUV (sport utility vehicle) maintains its proven physical dimensions, but comes with several enhancements in powertrains, design, interior, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

Dimensions:

The updated Tank 500 measures 5,078 mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height. It boasts a wheelbase of 2,850 mm and a ground clearance of approximately 210-224 mm, depending on the source. The vehicle's approach angle is 29°, while the departure angle stands at 24°. The Tank 500 can seat up to 7 passengers and offers a cargo volume of up to 1,489 L. The fuel tank capacity is 75 L, and the vehicle has a wading depth of 800 mm [1][2][3].

Powertrains:

The updated Tank 500 continues to offer two plug-in hybrid versions: the Hi4-T, designed for off-road performance, and the Hi4-Z, suitable for family use. Both powertrains feature a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, delivering 242 hp and 380 Nm torque. The Hi4-T's electric motor produces 104 hp and 268 Nm torque, resulting in a combined system output of 300 kW (402 hp). The transmission is a 9-speed automatic (9HAT), and the vehicle is equipped with 4WD [1][2][3].

Design and Interior Upgrades:

The exterior of the updated Tank 500 features minor changes, such as an updated front grille and a new "GWM" logo on the rear. Inside, the vehicle offers paddle shifters on the steering wheel, a 50 W refrigerator in the center console (temperature range: –6°C to 50°C), and Nappa leather seats with heating and ventilation. Rear passengers have access to a 17.3-inch 3K ceiling entertainment screen, which can be controlled by voice, gesture, touch, and mobile device. The rear seat backrest is adjustable between 25° to 35° angle [3].

Advanced Driver-Assistance System:

The updated Tank 500 is equipped with Great Wall Motor’s third-generation ADAS called Coffee Pilot Ultra. This system features LiDAR sensors for enhanced perception and safety, delivering comprehensive driver assistance and enhancing both off-road and on-road driving experiences [2].

Additional Features:

The updated Tank 500 boasts a maximum towing capacity of up to 2,500 kg, front and rear ventilated disc brakes, a front double cross arm and rear multi-link suspension, and 20-inch alloy wheels with 265/50 R20 radial tires [1][3].

Pre-sales for the updated Tank 500 are expected to begin in August 2025, with the official launch planned for later that quarter [2][3][4]. The updates to the Tank 500 position it as a more tech-forward and comfortable off-road SUV option.
