Greifswald Introduces Digital Photo System for Identity Cards and Passports
The city of Greifswald has introduced a new digital photo system for personal documents. From May 2025, digital photos are mandatory for new identity cards and passports. The registration office has set up equipment from the Federal Printing Office for this purpose.
The Digitalization project for new personal documents in Greifswald allows citizens to have their photos taken directly at the city administration office. Professional photographers are recommended to ensure high-quality images. The photos are uploaded encrypted to a secure cloud and accessed using a QR code by the office.
Digital photos cost 6 euros each. The project aims to streamline the process of issuing personal documents. However, it's important to note that digital photos are currently only accepted for identity cards and passports. Paper photos are still required for driver's licenses and other documents.
The new digital photo system in Greifswald is a step towards modernizing personal document issuance. It offers convenience for citizens, with professional photography services available at the city administration office. The digital photos are securely stored and accessed, ensuring the integrity of personal information.
