Global powerhouse Globo strengthens its alliance with Grass Valley in their joint venture to prepare for the next generation of television, TV 3.0.

Globo Transforms Production Operations with Grass Valley's AMPP

Brazilian broadcaster Globo is revolutionizing its production operations, deploying Grass Valley's Agile Media Processing Platform (AMPP) as the backbone of its future production operations. This strategic move is part of a multiphase migration of Globo's primary production control rooms to a platform powered by the AMPP ecosystem.

Since 2022, Globo and Grass Valley have collaborated closely, deploying AMPP across Tier 3 content production environments. The aim is to build an agile and scalable production supply chain that responds to the evolving media market demands.

Key aspects of AMPP's role in Globo's transformation include a software-defined production infrastructure, hybrid cloud architecture, support for live and multi-format workflows, automation, and efficiency. AMPP replaces traditional hardware-centric workflows with software-defined capabilities, offering Globo the agility and scalability necessary for next-generation TV production and distribution.

The hybrid cloud architecture allows Globo to manage workflows across on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments, facilitating seamless integration and resource optimization for live production and content management. AMPP's support for live and multi-format workflows ensures high-quality delivery as Globo moves towards advanced broadcast technologies under TV 3.0 paradigms.

Automation and efficiency are also key benefits. AMPP integrates tightly with production automation tools and content management systems, enabling Globo to reduce manual effort, increase flexibility, and achieve measurable operational efficiencies in its production chain.

The partnership between Globo and Grass Valley continues to evolve, with a focus on the joint evolution of the AMPP ecosystem. The strategic partnership is formalized through a multi-year Enterprise Agreement.

During the 2024 and 2025 seasons of Big Brother Brasil, one of Globo's largest and most complex live productions, AMPP was used in a full 2110 IP infrastructure and microservices architecture. The success of this initiative has laid the groundwork for a multiphase migration of Globo's primary production control rooms to a platform powered by the AMPP ecosystem.

Globo is expanding its 2110 IP-based infrastructure through a new project. The new AMPP-based control infrastructure will support 4K workflows, meeting DTV+ requirements. This new project is a critical step in preparing for Brazil's next-generation digital broadcast standard, DTV+ (TV 3.0).

AMPP, the Agile Media Processing Platform, offers a powerful, agile, and efficient hybrid-cloud platform for Globo's live production workflows. The new project reinforces Globo's commitment to scalable, future-ready production.

Tim Banks, Chief Revenue Officer at Grass Valley, expressed gratitude at strengthening the partnership with Globo in this strategic transformation. Mauricio Felix, Technology Executive at Globo, stated that the shift to a software-defined platform enables agility and scalability in the production supply chain.

The deployment marks an expansion of Globo's relationship with Grass Valley and is part of a major initiative to modernize and future-proof its live production capabilities. The new project aims to support Globo's most demanding live production workflows now and in the years to come.
