Starting today, Gemini app users can now broadcast messages to their Nest speakers and smart displays using Google Home integration. This new feature allows Gemini to handle the broadcast request directly, improving responsiveness and features.
To get started, open the Gemini app on your phone or tablet. In the top-right profile menu, enable Google Home in the Apps list. If prompted, enable App Activity, a permission required for the broadcasting functionality.
Once enabled, you can instruct Gemini to broadcast messages through your Nest devices connected to your Google Home account. You can make these requests either via the Gemini app directly or through an overlay shortcut.
Customising your message is easy. You can say "Broadcast I'm on my way home" or "Broadcast to the living room, it's time for homework". Additionally, you can specify whether to broadcast to all connected devices or target a specific device or room in your home.
Previously, Gemini relied on Google Assistant to handle broadcast requests, but the new integration allows Gemini to handle this functionality directly. The rollout of this integration is gradual and may not be available for all users immediately.
This feature is available immediately and does not require any future updates. For those who have not yet connected Google Home to the Gemini app, you will be prompted to do so when attempting to use the new broadcasting feature.
