Genesis Unveils Extended Range Electric Vehicle for 2027
Hyundai's luxury division, Genesis, has unveiled its Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) at the 2025 CEO Investor Day. The first EREV model is set to launch in 2027, marking a significant step in Genesis' electrification strategy.
The Genesis EREV, unlike traditional hybrids, uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine not for direct propulsion, but as a generator to supply electricity to the battery when needed. This allows for a smaller battery pack, quieter performance, and convenient charging via plug-in capability. Despite the smaller battery, the EREV is expected to achieve over 1,000 km on a single charge.
The EREV powertrain is expected to debut in the Genesis GV70 SUV, with the first EREV model set to be released after 2026. The price is anticipated to be similar to, or possibly higher than, the current Genesis GV70 EV. The EREV is designed to appeal to premium customers seeking long-distance capability without compromising luxury or technology.
The Genesis EREV, set to launch in 2027, promises a unique blend of electric vehicle driving experience and hybrid-like long-distance flexibility. With a smaller battery capacity, quieter performance, and extended driving range, the EREV is poised to cater to discerning customers seeking a premium, eco-friendly driving experience.
