"Gamescom trade show features presentations of 'Call of Duty' and 'Black Myth' video games"
Headline: Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Unveiled at Games Event, Set for 2025 Release
The gaming world was abuzz with excitement as the latest instalment in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops 7, was unveiled at a major industry event. Scheduled for release on November 14, 2025, across multiple platforms, the game promises to deliver an immersive and thrilling experience.
The game's storyline continues the Black Ops saga, with American actor Milo Ventimiglia starring as protagonist David Mason. Set in the year 2035, the action unfolds in the futuristic Mediterranean city of Avalon, where Mason leads an elite JSOC team on a covert mission. The plot involves the return of terrorist Raul Menedez and a powerful tech conglomerate known as The Guild, led by CEO Emma Kagan (played by Kiernan Shipka).
As Mason and his team—Mike Harper (Michael Rooker), Eric Samuels (John Eric Bentley), and Leilani Tupuola (Frankie Adams)—infiltrate Avalon, they find themselves in a trap involving a mind-altering fear gas, resulting in a psychological horror campaign with surreal and mind-bending elements.
While the gaming industry has faced challenges, including job cuts and studio closures, it's expected that revenue in the global games market will hold steady at just under $190 billion this year, according to forecasts by Newzoo.
Other highlights of the event included the reveal of Hollow Knight: Silksong, a sequel to a beloved indie platformer, and the return of Nintendo, riding on the success of the Switch 2 console launch. Sony, however, chose not to attend the event this year.
Indie games were celebrated by event master of ceremonies Geoff Keighley, who emphasised that small teams with big ideas can change the industry. Lorien Testard, who crafted the music for Expedition 33, gave a live performance at the event.
The event also saw the unveiling of upcoming titles such as Requiem (the next instalment in the Resident Evil series) and The Outer Worlds 2. Microsoft's Xbox division showcased a portable console scheduled for release towards the end of the year.
The Amazon Prime series Fallout introduced its second season at the event, with a December 17 release, and Black Myth: Zhong Kui was revealed as a follow-up to the Chinese 2024 hit Wukong.
The event in Cologne, Germany, on Tuesday saw a record opening night with over 5,300 attendees, marking a strong start to another exciting year in the gaming industry.
