FotMob: A Rising Star in the World of Football

FotMob, a niche football app that started in 2004, has transformed into a mainstream platform with over 20 million monthly active users. This meteoric rise can be traced back to its comprehensive football content, engaging features, and extensive coverage of major leagues and teams.

In 2010, The New York Times gave FotMob a shoutout, which welcomed a flurry of new users. Since then, the app has continued to evolve, offering live scores, detailed stats coverage such as expected goals (xG), player ratings, news, and transfer updates, making it a go-to resource for football fans worldwide.

Key factors in FotMob's growth include its extensive coverage, user engagement tools, consistent updates and reliability, and cross-platform availability. FotMob was first used by its creators, Christer and Tommy Nordvik, during their honeymoon in Thailand in 2004 due to a lack of internet access to follow their local team's matches. Today, FotMob is one of the world's leading football platforms, notched over 100 million downloads, and run by a small team of 30.

In the UK, the Lionesses were the fifth-most followed team on FotMob, behind England (men), Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal. In the U.S., Vissel Kobe vs Barcelona and PSG vs Real Madrid were the most popular matches on FotMob, with England vs Spain in the Women's Euros in fourth place.

The Lionesses' triumphant run at the Women's Euro 2025 was among the most-followed events on FotMob. England vs Spain (Women's Euros final) and England vs Italy (Women's Euros semifinals) were the two most popular matches on FotMob in July. A lot of FotMob's planning these days is centered around the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a nod to FotMob's success, Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter, tweeted about FotMob's app being amazing for the World Cup. FotMob was the first app to introduce the metric "expected goals" (xG).
