Ford Announces New Design Chief: Todd Willing to Oversee Global Vehicle Design
Ford Motor Company has announced a change in design leadership, with Todd Willing taking over as the head of Ford design, effective August 27. Willing will oversee design for Ford and Lincoln vehicles worldwide.
Willing has been with Ford since 2003 and has played a significant role in shaping iconic Ford vehicles. He was the exterior chief designer on the 2017 Ford GT and has worked on the design of several other popular Ford models, including the 2007 Ford Mondeo, 2009 Ford Fiesta, 2010 Ford Focus, and 2017 Ford GT.
In addition to his work on passenger cars, Willing led the teams responsible for the F-150, Super Duty, Ranger, Bronco, Maverick, Explorer, and Expedition vehicle lines while serving as global design director for Ford Trucks and SUVs. Willing will succeed Anthony Lo, who stepped down as chief design officer for Ford in May after three years in the position.
Willing's background is not limited to the automotive industry. Before joining Ford Motor Co. in 2003, he had a background as a photographer and spent about fifteen years promoting other artists by organizing and curating 44 exhibitions.
The new design chief has had assignments in Japan, Germany, England, and Australia in the past and has worked on products destined for markets worldwide. Willing was previously the global design director for Model e and most recently the global design director for Ford Trucks and SUVs.
Ford's press release states that Willing has played a significant role in shaping iconic Ford vehicles and that he will bring a wealth of experience and creativity to his new role as head of Ford design. Anthony Lo's departure was announced on a LinkedIn post.
With this change in leadership, Ford is poised to continue pushing the boundaries of design and innovation in the automotive industry. Willing's extensive experience and passion for design make him an ideal candidate to lead Ford's design team and drive the company forward in the years to come.
