Fibre optic expansion completed by Westconnect in two areas of Bad Sassendorf confirmed by press release
In an exciting development for digital connectivity in North-West Germany, Westconnect GmbH is set to commence the expansion of its fiber optic network in several districts.
The commissioning of the fiber optic network in Lohne is scheduled to start in Q4 2025, following the completion of civil engineering works in the district. In fact, 15 km of route has already been built, paving the way for this much-anticipated project.
Meanwhile, in the core area of Bad Sassendorf, remedial work is currently underway, with regular civil engineering works set to resume in Q4 2025. This expansion is part of Westconnect's commitment to bringing high-performance fiber optic internet to more areas in North-West Germany.
The successful expansion in Ostinghausen and Neuengeseke of Bad Sassendorf has already been completed and the network is now operational. Malte Dahlhoff, the Mayor of Bad Sassendorf, expressed his pleasure with this development, praising Westconnect's efforts in improving digital connectivity in his municipality.
Westconnect's expansion plans extend beyond Bad Sassendorf. Construction in Opmünden is expected to start in Q1 2026, followed by Weslarn in Q2, and Bettinghausen in Q3 2026. These districts, along with Opmünden, Weslarn, and Bettinghausen, will be equipped with fiber optic networks in 2026.
Unlike conventional copper cables, fiber optic enables the transmission of data through light signals, offering faster and more reliable internet services. Approximately 76 kilometers of fiber optic network are already in operation, and with Westconnect's expansion, even more residents and businesses will have access to powerful internet.
Westnetz is responsible for the laying of the fiber optic cables on behalf of Westconnect GmbH. Construction works in Heppen have already begun, and the commissioning of the fiber optic network is scheduled for Q4 2025.
Last-minute deciders can save around €400 in connection activation fee. Westconnect's internet products can be found under the brands E.ON Highspeed (eon-highspeed.com) and Westconnect (westconnect.de). The company, which is a 50% stake of Westenergie AG, primarily expands the fiber optic network in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Lower Saxony, and Hesse.
