FIATA World Congress 2025: Vietnam's Green Logistics Potential Spotlighted
The 99th FIATA World Congress concluded in Vietnam, marking the first time the event was hosted in the country. Coinciding with FIATA's anniversary, the congress highlighted Vietnam's strategic role in green logistics transformation and its potential to contribute to a more sustainable global logistics ecosystem.
The congress, held on October 6 and jointly hosted by FIATA and the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA), brought together industry leaders to discuss maritime sustainability. FIATA, a permanent observer at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), represented the freight forwarding and logistics sector in these global discussions.
FIATA President Turgut Erkeskin, who took office in 2023, emphasized the importance of freight forwarders in driving resilience and sustainability in global logistics. This was his first World Congress presidency abroad since his election. The congress also saw the launch of a joint training programme on emissions accounting, a collaboration between FIATA and the Smart Freight Centre.
Vietnam's logistics sector, which accounts for 16-18% of the country's GDP and 8-10% of its CO2 emissions, stands to benefit from such initiatives. With total trade turnover expected to exceed $800 billion in 2025 and the logistics industry valued at around $70-80 billion, Vietnam's role in shaping a greener, more digital, and sustainable global logistics ecosystem is increasingly significant.
The congress concluded with the Young Logistics Professionals Award, celebrating the next generation driving the future of global logistics. As Vietnam's logistics sector continues to grow and evolve, its contribution to a more sustainable global logistics ecosystem is set to become even more pronounced.
