4Dviews Unveils Upgraded HOLOSYS+ System with Gaussian Splatting Feature

Expanded creative possibilities with Gaussian Splatting offered by HOLOSYS+

4Dviews, a leading company in mesh and texture refinement, has announced an upgrade to its HOLOSYS+ system. The new system offers a significant advancement in volumetric capture technology, providing a more robust, flexible, and visually precise volumetric rendering toolset within a familiar capture ecosystem.

The highlight of the upgraded HOLOSYS+ system is the integration of Gaussian Splatting, an advanced volumetric rendering method. This feature allows creation teams to export volumetric video captures in either traditional mesh-and-texture formats or using Gaussian Splatting. This dual-export capability offers greater creative and technical flexibility in volumetric production workflows.

Gaussian Splatting excels at representing complex surface and material details such as hair, fur, reflective, translucent surfaces, and fine props, which are typically challenging for standard mesh-based formats. The technique uses Gaussian blobs ("splats") to approximate volumetric data, providing increased visual fidelity and smoother detail rendering without the constraints of polygonal meshes.

4Dviews has engineered its integration to provide greater stability and fidelity in challenging capture conditions. The new HOLOSYS+ system supports a wide range of use cases, from low-bandwidth streaming to high-quality offline rendering. Moreover, it preserves full backwards compatibility with existing HOLOSYS volumetric assets, ensuring a seamless upgrade path without workflow disruption.

The incorporation of Gaussian Splatting into HOLOSYS+ widens creative choices by letting teams select the rendering format based on project needs, removing trade-offs between quality and pipeline compatibility. It provides enhanced handling of materials and fine details, improving realism and visual impact for virtual content creation. The dual pipeline workflow alongside traditional mesh-and-texture outputs empowers production teams to optimize for either compatibility or enhanced surface detail as needed.

Furthermore, Gaussian Splatting enables efficient streaming and rendering options, adapting volumetric production for broader distribution scenarios without compromising quality. The new HOLOSYS+ system is not intended to be the finish line but rather a tool to support the narrative, not constrain it.

Richard Broadbridge, CEO of 4Dviews, has stated that the company's goal is to expand possibilities for virtual content creators with the upgraded HOLOSYS+ system. A teaser video of the splatting feature in the new HOLOSYS+ system is available for a sneak peek.
