In the heart of Germany, the Technical Relief organisation (THW) has been providing essential services during a recent power outage in Berlin. The THW, known for its commitment to civil protection, has been supplying power and lighting to nursing homes, health departments, care points, information points, and disaster protection lighting towers.

The THW's work is rooted in the dedication of its volunteers, specialists, technology, and experience. Over 300 THW volunteers have been deployed in Berlin at the request of the Berlin Fire Department, with nearly 50 still actively working in the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick.

The THW's diverse tasks include electrical power supply, emergency supply and repair, logistics, catering volunteers, and refueling vehicles. In addition, they have been illuminating S-Bahn stations with light masts at the request of Deutsche Bahn, including four stations and Altglienicke station in the night to Thursday.

The THW has been supplying power to a nursing home and the health department in Treptow-Köpenick since the power outage began. The current situation is stable, and no major further requirements are expected at this time. Lessons learned from the 2019 major power outage in Köpenick have been implemented this time, including the early deployment of disaster protection lighting towers in Berlin districts.

Barbara Schwarzwaelder, the contact person for the THW Regional Association Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt, expressed gratitude to the volunteers for their swift response and continuous support during the power outage. The THW Regional Department's office is located at Soorstraße 84, 14050 Berlin.

The THW is a federally funded operational organization with approximately 88,000 volunteers nationwide. For more information, visit the THW's website at http://www.lv-bebbst.thw.de.
