EU Bolsters Eastern Border Security With New 'Drone Wall'
The European Union is fortifying its eastern border security with a new 'drone wall'. This move is in response to recent drone incidents in Denmark, Romania, and Poland. Germany, at the forefront of this initiative, is planning to empower its armed forces to shoot down unmanned flying objects under specific conditions.
German Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt has announced the enhancement to drone defence powers. In the future, the German armed forces will be able to intercept drones in situations where human life or critical infrastructure is at immediate risk, and other defence measures have failed. Previously, drone defence was managed by the Federal Police and federal state police forces, but their technology was not up to par.
The EU's new drone defence system will be capable of identifying, tracking, and intercepting drones. It will leverage satellite-based position detection and maritime security measures for enhanced protection. This update aims to bolster the EU's eastern flank and safeguard its borders.
The EU's 'drone wall' initiative, led by Germany, is set to enhance security along the eastern border. With the updated drone defence capabilities, the German armed forces will be better equipped to handle potential threats, ensuring the safety of citizens and critical infrastructure across Europe.
